Keeping You Posted

Thank you so much to all of you who’ve prayed for Asia, Ahok and Pastor Hassan! Here is some breaking news.

I’ve been able to gather more updates on people we’ve prayed for, and unfortunately this time it’s not such good news. So I thought I’d post a quick update for those of you who are partnering in prayer for them.

  • Fabulous news from Sudan: Czechoslovakian Christian Petr Jasek was freed 🙂 :), but the two Sudanese men arrested with him received twelve year sentences. Great news–they have now been freed too! I was concerned that Pastor Hassan and his companion Mr. Abdumawla had been forgotten. But with a renewed international advocacy campaign, they received a presidential pardon on May 11. All praise to God, who hears and answers prayer!
  • In Pakistan: After seven years on death row, Asia Bibi has one more appeal remaining. Last time I posted, her attorney had requested that her case be “expedited,” targeting a new court date in June. Unfortunately, that request was denied. 🙁
There is no date set at this point for her appeal. Please sign the petition for her release here.
  • In Indonesia: Christian Governor Ahok Purnami did not win his election bid–in spite of winning the final debate and in spite of an approval level near 80% for his performance as interim governor. His loss was clearly fueled by racial and religious tensions.
Further, in his blasphemy trial, the prosecution *admitted* they failed to prove him guilty and recommended reduced charges. Yet earlier this week, in an outrageous and unexpected turn, the Court somehow still found Ahok guilty of the original charge of blasphemy. He’s been sentenced to two years in prison. Crowds have taken to Jakarta’s streets in protest, singing patriotic songs about Indonesia’s founding principles of unity and diversity.

Is this the death of religious tolerance in the world’s most populous Muslim nation??
“A sad day for Indonesia.”

VIDEO Ahok Supporters

[VIDEO] Ahok supporters, wearing his trademark plaid, weep as he is jailed.

Ahok is being held in a simple cell in a high-security police facility. His only book is a Bible. According to his sister, “He loves reading his Bible. He has it with him and he can pray whenever he wants.” He is allowed visitors twice per week.

His family fears that his life is in danger due to continued threats from radical Islamists. So please pray for his protection, and comfort from God’s word!

I am so grateful to so many who have prayed! I know your prayers have blessed Asia, Ahok and many others beyond measure!
