“The kings of the earth will weep and lament… The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn, for no one buys their merchandise any more.” (Rev 18:9-11)
Is the shake-up we’re seeing a wakeup call for something much bigger?
In spite of claims by some that this virus is “no worse than the flu,” supply chains have been decimated, jobs lost, normal activities interrupted and financial markets are in free fall.
I feel like the Lord recently showed me something about this “shake up” we’re going through, and I want to share it with you.
There are a number of theories about who or what the woman in Rev 17 (“Mystery Babylon,” “the Woman Riding the Beast”) represents. My own belief is that she represents the nexus of godless world power that binds false religion, the Satan-worshiping Illuminati, and many powerful business and political leaders together in a common front to defy the God of the Bible. Or, putting it another way, the forces of “progressive” globalism that are gathering to bring in the so-called “new world order.” (Which is at least as old as Gen 11:1-9, by the way, and many would say as old as Gen 6:1-4.)
I confess that when I think of this enigmatic female figure in scripture, a specific image now comes to my mind. Jennifer Lopez pole dancing and pseudo-stripping before an audience of 103 million viewers at the last Super Bowl half-time show. NO, I’m NOT saying J.Lo is the “whore of Babylon”! But I am saying that the symbolism in that performance was striking–and purposeful.
Fast forward a mere seven weeks from that scandalous Super Bowl Sunday display rife with satanic and sexual symbolism*–the N.F.L.’s idea of “family entertainment.” Are we starting to get a foretaste of ultimate judgment on the “Mystery Babylon” system? (*Note: If you follow the link, I apologize in advance for some of the contents. BUT, these images were inflicted on 103 million N.F.L. fans!)
I know, that feels like a stretch. What we’re experiencing is distressing, but not apocalyptic. Still… note that the outcry over Mystery Babylon’s judgement comes from two very specific groups—political and business leaders.
“…the kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her will weep and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.’ And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore…” (Rev 18:9-11)
Don’t you see a pretty striking correspondence to the headlines we’ve seen day after day?
In spite of claims by some that this virus is “no worse than the flu,” supply chains have been decimated, jobs lost, normal activities interrupted and financial markets are in free fall, even in the face of trillions of dollars in approved and proposed economic stimulus packages.
Let’s take a look at who’s being hit disproportionately by this thing. First, the top three countries ranked by deaths as recorded on the Worldometer.
(Between communism, radical Islam, and Roman Catholicism, what do you suppose the death toll on faith-filled Christian believers has been through the ages?)
Outside those nations, let’s talk about some of the cities that are hardest hit.
The cities that serve as global headquarters of the financial system, the globalist corporate technocracy, the entertainment industry, and two cities most symbolic of sexual identity politics are all under lockdown.
Does that sound like the godless nexus of world power I described early on?
I hear many asking whether this event represents divine judgment. What do you think?
Incidentally, the five U.S. states where governors have closed or have announced they will soon close non-essential businesses (California, New York, Illinois, New Jersey and Connecticut) account for about 31% of the U.S. economy.
And one more point. Can we conclude anything based on the demographic this virus hits the hardest?
(So the next time you hear someone claim this is no worse than the flu, you’ll know better, yes?)
Nowhere is this trend more pronounced than in Italy. Men make up nearly 60% of people with confirmed cases of the virus and more than 70% of those who have died from Covid-19, according to the country’s main public health research agency. On the other end of the spectrum is South Korea, where about 61% of confirmed infections have been in women. Though far fewer patients have died, the majority of fatalities — 54% — were again in men.
So…the men of the Woodstock Generation, who led the charge away from the values of the Greatest Generation, appear to be disproportionately at risk. Hmmm.
Apart from the mayhem associated with the pandemic, is anything else strange going on?
Everything strange is going on. This isn’t just about a pandemic.
In Matthew 24 and Luke 21, Yeshua warned that “birth pangs” would attend the final days of this world system. We’ve been seeing those for decades, but in the past weeks, do you have a feeling they’ve intensified? If so, you’re not alone. This article documents how events have evolved, even since Jan 1, related to wars and rumors of wars, spiritual deception, famine, pestilence, earthquakes, etc.
Let me pick out a few notable developments (that happen to fit my premise 🙂 ).
Shiite Islam is under attack by Covid-19 in Iran, but has Sunni Islam been spared its share of birth pangs?
It appears Israel will be “passed over.”
And… while we’re on the topic of earthquakes and false religious systems, how about this for symbolism? On March 18, a 5.7 magnitude earthquake in Salt Lake City, UT, knocked the trumpet from the hands of the “Angel Moroni,” whose statue tops the Mormon Temple. Now the “angel” appears to be holding his arm up, maybe shielding his face from something that’s coming??

Please understand…I’m not trying to say that what we’re seeing now is the divine judgment the Bible describes as the Great Tribulation. (Just like I’m not saying J.Lo is the “woman riding the beast.”) Sadly, what we’re seeing is but a dramatic foretaste of what the Righteous Judge has in store for an unrepentant world. And it should serve as a dire warning of what is soon to come.
From Dr. Michael Brown:
As the author of Hebrews tells us, the Lord “has promised, ‘Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.’ The words ‘once more’ indicate the removing of what can be shaken — that is, created things — so that what cannot be shaken may remain” (Hebrews 12:26-27).
Everything will be shaken on that day.
This is how Jesus described it: “There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken” (Luke 21:25-26).
Or, in the vivid language of the Book of Revelation, “Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. They called to the mountains and the rocks, ‘Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?'” (Revelation 6:15-17)
Isaiah put it like this (please read this slowly and prayerfully):
…”The earth will be completely laid waste and totally plundered. The LORD has spoken this word. The earth dries up and withers, the world languishes and withers, the heavens languish with the earth. The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Therefore earth’s inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left.” (Isaiah 24:1-6).
If you think you’re seeing panic now, just wait.
As Christians, we should not respond with panic. I love the encouragement at the end of this excellent article by Todd Hampson, author of The Non-Prophet’s Guide to the Book of Revelation: Bible Prophecy for Everyone.
First, we should not live in fear. God is still in control. He’s in control of the world, and in control of your life. He didn’t cause COVID-19, but He allowed it. There is a paradox inherent in this discussion…. Faith is required. God’s promises are true, prophecy is real, world events are not random, this is all headed somewhere. Do not fear. Look up!
Second, we should look for new ways to leverage this moment to turn people to Christ. It may look different than two weeks ago. The truths of Bible prophecy are beginning to have meaning to a broader audience as the whole world senses these birth pains.
Even the secular voices are becoming progressively more apocalyptic. The condition of the world is the elephant in the room. We need to be bold enough to talk about it from a Biblical (ie, accurate) perspective. Along with that, we should love others and meet needs at a time when most are fearful and need some encouragement.
Third, we should be responsible. Though we should not fear, we should heed wise advice and take the recommended precautions seriously. It’s a chance for us to love our neighbor as our self. This pandemic forces us to get our eyes off of our own needs and onto the needs of others.
During the worst moments of the initial outbreak, Chinese Christians from the underground church served victims of COVID-19 with grace, joy, and love. Because of such acts, the underground church in China continues to explode. What the enemy meant for evil, was turned to be used for good.
I’ve been really praying about how I can personally be “salt and light” during this very dark time. Maybe this post is a pebble in the pool.
Finally, two more words about why this disease, which will be mild for most who contract it, is not the flu: Exponential. Growth.
From 0 to 125,000 cases: 14 weeks
From 125,000 to 250,000 cases: 9 days
— Norbert Elekes (@NorbertElekes) March 20, 2020
We don’t have a vaccine. We don’t have effective treatment for the most severe cases. Our hospitals are short of beds, ventilators, and even basic supplies such as gloves and masks to face the major surge in cases that will come if we don’t modify our behavior.
If we don’t want our major cities to look like Lombardy, Italy, in a few weeks’ time…
…we all need to take the precautions seriously. Stay home, get compulsive about washing our hands and deny this thing its chance to find new hosts until our medical system can catch up.
I’ve read a LOT about this virus, and this is the most thorough and balanced thing I’ve read. Highly recommend digesting it. It has some thoughts on self-care as well.
And, MOST critically… If you’re not sure you’re right with the Righteous Judge, take care of that NOW, before the time of shaking foretold throughout the Bible progresses any further.
Behold, NOW is “the acceptable time,” behold, NOW is “the day of salvation”… (2 Cor 6:2)
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. (Rev 3:20)
Brothers and sisters, please let that be you and me!
If you’ve never opened God’s free gift of salvation through Jesus (Rom 3:23, 6:23), please please please be persuaded to do it now! It’s simple. Just tell God from your heart that you admit you’re a sinner that needs a Savior (“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Rom 3:23) that you’re done running your own life, and that you’re ready to make Jesus Lord of your life.
If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.” (Rom 10:9-11)
The decision that saves you is that simple!
Simple… But no one said living it out will be easy. Especially now, in these last days.
